The Hampton District 2 Coalition for Recognition and Improvement Board, along with the churches of the surrounding communities, held a welcome luncheon for the eleven new teachers entering the Hampton School District 2 school system. The luncheon was held at the Bull Durham Center on Friday, Aug. 12. Seven church pastors, several district officials and school board members, a few church officials, along with the twelve board members were in attendance.
Those in attendance were served a delicious meal. The teachers received gifts, many words of welcome, gratitude and thanks, along with lots of hugs for accepting the challenge of educating our children. The Coalition Board and all present made a promise that everything possible will be done to help make their stay here a pleasant one.
The mission of the Coalition Board is: “To work in partnership with public and private organizations and all government agencies and to take informed and compassionate action to improve and create a nurturing and caring environment in our communities.” The board has several goals, but first and foremost is to enhance the quality of life of our young people.
The Board states: “We are here to support our parents, students and the school system. We cannot emphasize enough: all children have a right to a quality education, which prepares them to become productive members of society. Not every student leaves high school bound for college, so we believe that vocational classes should be an integral part of the school curriculum.
“Our goals can only be achieved with a concerted effort made by all of the stakeholders involved. So, we call on churches, parents, the community, as well as students, to provide suggestions and help as we move forward to improve our community.”
