American Legion Post 108 will host a Memorial Day event at the All-Wars Memorial at the Hampton County Courthouse lawn May 29.
Dear Editor,
President Abraham Lincoln said as part of his Gettysburg Address; “… from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion; that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain.”
Memorial Day is a sacred occasion for all veterans, it should actually be a sacred occasion for all Americans. We need to honor those veterans that sacrificed their lives for our freedom and way of life. We also need to remember the sacrifices made by many others on behalf of our country for the past 241 years. Let us be thankful to these brave men and women who put their lives on the line so we may enjoy the freedoms we sometimes take for granted.
Come join my fellow legionnaires at the All Wars Memorial on Memorial Day, May 29, at 10 a.m. sharp to honor all those brave veterans who gave their lives for us. Bring your lawn chairs and join us for a memorial ceremony to pay tribute to our brave veterans. The ceremony will feature a keynote speaker and the Wade Hampton High School Naval ROTC Color Guard.
Don’t forget the lawn chairs.
Thomas E. Watson, Commander
American Legion Post 108
