Luchtime armed robbery of Yemassee Family Dollar

According to Yemassee Police Chief Gregory Alexander, an armed robbery occurred today around noon at the Family Dollar store, in Yemassee. According to the chief, a man armed with what police believe to be a .357 handgun entered the store and robbed the store's cashier at gunpoint.

The suspect then proceeded to remain inside the store for a period of twelve minutes as he waited for the store's safe to be opened. The suspect was able to make off with over $2,000 in cash during the robbery. The Hampton County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene with tracking dogs, but did not immediately locate the suspect, who fled the scene on foot.

As of 4 p.m. today, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been named by police.
