Dear Hampton County Community,
To date, Hampton County Relay for Life has raised more than $86,000!
We want to thank our corporate sponsors for always coming thru and giving Relay for Life a big chunk of our fundraising. This year our sponsors included: PMPED, Green Acres Turf Farm, Palmetto State Bank, J.R. Wilson Construction, Palmetto Electric Cooperative, Le Creuset of America, CenturyLink, Pruitt Health - Estill, Hampton Regional Medical Center, Beaufort Memorial, Brunson Laundry, Brunson Building Supply, Varnville Coin Laundry & Car Wash, Luray Christian Church, Kicks Industries, Southern Millwright, Debbie Elrod State Farm, Lowcountry Rehab, Elliott Sawmilling Company, South Carolina Timber, and Southern Surgery Specialists. These sponsors collectively raised $17, 600.
Our in kind sponsors were Piggly Wiggly, Wade Hampton High School, Hampton County Guardian, Tents N Things (James Black), WBHC and SCE&G.
Now to thank all of those who work long hours to make the event happen. First I want to thank the Relay for Life Leadership Team. We meet once a month for nine months out the year. Lots of planning, phone calls, emails, and hard work goes into this eight-hour event. You truly are the best team making it the "Greatest Relay on Earth". Thank you for all you do!
Now to thank those who work tirelessly throughout the year—our teams! You guys are awesome! We know the hard work you put in raising the money to fight for the cure! We appreciate you doing the legwork because every penny counts.
Now to thank the ones who help make the "day" happen.
Starting on Thursday morning, we have Kenny Harrison and his team from SCE&G working to provide us with the necessary electricity it takes for us to have the fun we do. The stage is delivered by Jimmy Polk and the screen is arranged by Bill Hager. Friday is the busy day, thanks to the following people:
David Rowell and Barry Whittington for the port-a-johns, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Thompson for allowing us to use their camper, Wiggins for donating the sand for the luminaria bags, Bill Bowers for being our MC for the night, Hampton County Sheriff's Office for providing the security for the event.
We also need to thank Hampton First Baptist for allowing us to use the building for our meetings and Nixville Baptist for allowing us to have the Survivor Brunch in their Family Life Center.
My biggest thank you is to the ROTC unit at WHHS. This group of teenagers works right along with us starting at 8 a.m. on Friday. They work and do any and every thing we need until the last piece of trash is picked up before we go home. They are well mannered and have wonderful leadership. Commander Murtaugh and Chief Stone are doing a great job and they all deserve a pat on the back. This unit has won many awards but we don't usually hear about it. If you see any of them please thank them for a job well done every year!
To date we have raised $86,000 and counting! Hampton County is amazing! We will have our team wrap-up meeting on May 24 at 6:30 p.m. Teams please plan to be there! We will give out top fundraising awards and have fun.
